“Katahdin, Winterberries and Spruce”
A winter view of Mount Katahdin from the artist’s studio window decorates the tray (lucky Grammy Mouse!), and the design on the table underneath carries the winterberries and spruce boughs from the tray onto the table, making this a lovely combination!
Sheryl grew up on a farm in rural New Hampshire, and cannot ever remember NOT painting. Her mother and older sister loved to paint, so from the time she could hold a paintbrush the opportunity, the materials, and the encouragement were there. Encouragement continued into her early school years, when she was enrolled in a special gifted children’s experimental art program with weekly art classes, and her love for art continued to grow.
Over the years, Sheryl developed her own distinctive style of painting, and began selling her work at craft shows in the 1980’s. While exhibiting at an outdoor show in Salem, MA, she met Rosebee, a well-known folk artist from Cape Cod, who encouraged her in the world of folk art and gave her direction as to where to go with her painting. Sheryl loves folk art with a passion, aspiring to tell the stories of her early childhood while emulating and being inspired by the styles of her favorite artists: Charles Wysocki, Kathy Jakobsen, Rosebee, Sally Caldwell Fisher, and Linda Nelson Stocks.
Sheryl is known professionally as "Grammy Mouse," and sells her work under that name. Since retiring to the great North Woods of Maine, she has been able to devote more time to her art; her work is available through many gift shops and small galleries here in Maine, and at arts and crafts shows in the greater New England area.
