ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Jeff grew up in central Illinois, the oldest of four sons of Robert and Louise Freeman.  He was first introduced to watercolors by a high school art teacher who painted really wild city scenes with intense colors, exaggerated angles, wind-whipped clothes and trees -- a real sense of motion.  He always wanted to be able to convey that sense of energy in his work.

After high school he was sidetracked by the usual distractions of that era, then worked in the HVAC field for 20 years.  While living in Durango, CO in the mid 90's, he started painting again, took some classes and workshops and soon began selling his work.

Leaving Colorado in 1999 with his future wife, Beth Swazey, they traveled for about a year and then ended up on Mount Desert Island where Beth had grown up.  While they were renovating their home in Bar Harbor, Jeff decided to try polished concrete for their kitchen counters.  After researching and doing some practice pours, they tackled the project and the results were a complete success.  When they had finished the kitchen, they decided they then needed bar stools, a coffee table, and other furniture.

Since Jeff had always been intrigued by aluminum, he purchased a TIG welder and plasma cutter and went to work. After a lot of trial and error he became proficient at welding aluminum.  He decided to show some of his pieces, and the furniture design and fabrication business took off from there.  He now works a rotating cycle of painting, sculpting, and furniture design, hopefully to keep from stagnating in one area.  Currently he's doing a circuit of art and furniture shows in the northeast to gain exposure.
