ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Solveig was born in New York City in 1931, and majored in Art at Bennington College with a special interest in ceramics. Accompanying her husband and two small children to Munich, Germany, in 1956, she continued her studies in ceramics. On returning to the United States in 1961, she set up her first studio in Hollin Hills near Alexandria, VA. When the Corcoran School of Art started its ceramics program, she worked with Teru Hara; in more recent years, she has studied at weekend workshops and at Penland and Haystack.
Solveig launched her wholesale business in the 1960's, exhibiting at major crafts fairs held by the American Crafts Council. She has continued to exhibit with them through the years, and has built a business that has sold work to more than 150 shops and galleries across the country.
The cat image has recurred in her artwork since childhood, but for the last twenty years it has been the major theme of her pottery. She lives with her husband and two cats in Virginia in the winter, and in Castine in the summer. Her work is available at HandWorks in Blue Hill, Compliments in Kennebunkport, and in other shops in New England and across the country.
