Antiquity Tile - $120.00TITLE: "Antiquity"DIMENSIONS: 7.5h x 5.5w x 1.5d STYLE: shelf COMPOSITION: ceramic DISPLAY LOCATION: Bangor Window Shade, 105 Main Street ABOUT THE ARTIST: At Antiquity Tile, founded in 1990 and located in rural Maine on a farm old enough to be on the National Historic Register, artists work day in and day out -- much like a village pottery of yesteryear -- producing unique handmade art tile. Many of the clay artisans and trained professionals are local people with daily concerns, not only for their creations and finished artwork, but about family and how they live, the community and the environment and their place in it. Because of these roots, Antiquity Tile produces art tile and architectural pieces that are a welcome "green." As they take from their environment, they give back a product that is pleasing to the eye and made without harming the environment. Clay and glaze scraps are reconstituted and recycled back to useable clay and glaze for more tiles. The fuel for the wood kilns comes from recycled scrap wood from furniture shops throughout Maine. Wherever possible, recycled products are used. In the firing process, a fuel mixture of soft and hard woods creates the essential atmosphere for the variation and antique surfaces for which their work is recognized. The tile is frost-proof, and because it is so vitreous it requires no sealant and will remain beautiful for generations. Inspired by classical design, these tiles and plaques are exquisite expressions of both sophistication and natural simplicity. CONTACT INFORMATION: www.antiquitytile.com (207) 862-3513 |
